Lucien Murat (born in Ploemeur in 1986) is a Paris-based artist who graduated from Central Saint Martins.
Employing a technique of sewn patches, textures, and found tapestries, he has brought to life a personal mythology that allows him to question and explore the post-internet world.
In his latest body of work, he examines the relationship between humans and nature, particularly focusing on the degradation of the natural environment where humanity once thrived.
In collaboration with AI scientist Victor Rambaud, they have developed an AI capable of generating textured variations of any images or pictures of nature. This AI, trained with a cluster of textures from Murat’s previous works, produces images of a desolate nature devoid of life, resembling petrified powder. Murat’s work offers a glimpse into a near future where human activities have drastically altered the climate and ecosystems, endangering our existence.
Represented by Suzanne Tarasieve in France, Murat has exhibited his work in various institutions such as CAC Meymac, Frac Bordeaux, Musée de Soissons, Miam, and Musée de Rochechouart. Additionally, he has showcased his work in the US, Germany, Belgium, and Italy.
