MAXIME BIOU/SE METTRE AU VERT

Se mettre au vert…

For several years now, Maxime Biou's work has captivated us. Or perhaps more accurately, it has effortlessly slipped into our daily lives and into the appreciation of life's finer things.

This collection of soft yet powerful images, born from the painter's talent and empathy, has woven itself into our imaginations with its animals, plants, and casually posed portraits. But this time, Maxime’s new exhibition at PAL Project offers something different: an invitation to “se mettre au vert.”

With this new series of landscapes, specially created for the event, Biou dives deeper into a theme he had previously only touched on. Inspired by the surroundings of his new life after returning from the Casa de Velázquez, in the charming village of Marolles and its environs, along the banks of the Ourcq Canal, between its lock and La Ferté-Milon, Maxime returns to the essentials: the earth and its poetry, sometimes tinged with a touch of melancholy. Along these winding paths, the painter gathers bits and pieces to enrich his work, always accompanied by what makes his art so distinctive: his ever-faithful friend, light.

In this lush, green interlude, we find landscapes like those of Bagnolet, the pond in Parc des Guilands, and even his contented cat lounging on a cozy sofa, all serving as excuses to skillfully play with the impasto that defines Maxime Biou's art. The Normandy beach “stolen” from Cabourg's skies seems to naturally converse with a view of Lozère, another geographic witness to the artist’s daily, meditative walks.

It’s clear that this new and surprising chapter in the painter’s journey will bring us joy... once again, but in a completely fresh way!
