Liquidation totale/LIQUIDATION TOTALE
LIQUIDATION TOTALE Following Avalanche, which explored the finitude of artworks, and Ring Ring Ring, which questioned the orality associated with artworks, Total Liquidation raises questions about our relationship with images. Total Liquidation is an exhibition showcasing 555 visuals of artworks that have disappeared (lost, stolen, damaged, destroyed). Every hour, a reproduction is randomly selected. If it has not been sold, it is dissolved in a large vat of water in the middle of the gallery. Total Liquidation blends both old masters and contemporary artists, thanks to research conducted as part of the Oblivion Collection. The list of participating artists is announced, but only those purchasing a reproduction will know the name of the artist who provided the visual. For artists in the public domain, buyers will automatically be informed of the artist’s identity. An exhibition curated by Andy Rankin.
